If you’re an Apple user, you may be familiar with iMessage, the messaging service that allows you to send and receive messages from other Apple devices. While this feature can be convenient, there may be times when you want to turn off iMessages on your Mac. Whether you’re switching to a different messaging platform or simply need a break from constant notifications, here’s how to disable iMessage on your Mac.
Step 1: Open Messages App
The first step to turning off iMessages on your Mac is to open the Messages app. You can do this by clicking on the Messages icon in your dock or by searching for “Messages” in Spotlight.
Step 2: Go to Preferences
Once the Messages app is open, click on “Messages” in the menu bar at the top of your screen. Then, select “Preferences” from the drop-down menu.
Step 3: Select Accounts
In the Preferences window, click on the “Accounts” tab. This will show you all of the accounts that are currently linked to your Messages app.
Step 4: Uncheck iMessage
Under the “Accounts” tab, you will see a list of your accounts. Find the account that is linked to your iMessage and uncheck the box next to “Enable this account.” This will disable iMessage for that account.
Step 5: Confirm
A pop-up window will appear asking you to confirm that you want to disable iMessage for this account. Click on “Disable” to confirm.
Step 6: Repeat for Other Accounts
If you have multiple accounts linked to your Messages app, repeat steps 4 and 5 for each account to disable iMessage for all of them.
Step 7: Sign Out of iMessage
To completely turn off iMessages on your Mac, you will also need to sign out of iMessage. To do this, go back to the “Messages” menu in the menu bar and select “Sign Out.” This will log you out of iMessage and prevent any further messages from being sent or received on your Mac.
Step 8: Turn Off Notifications
If you want to completely disable iMessages on your Mac, you may also want to turn off notifications for the Messages app. To do this, go to your System Preferences and select “Notifications.” Find the Messages app in the list and uncheck the box next to it to turn off notifications.
Step 9: Re-enable iMessage
If you ever want to turn iMessages back on, simply go back to the “Accounts” tab in your Messages app preferences and check the box next to “Enable this account” for the account you want to use for iMessage.
By following these steps, you can easily turn off iMessages on your Mac and take a break from constant notifications.
